Herman Cain Under the Gun
Politics is a tough business, and a lot of good candidates decide not to run, thereby protecting themselves from the unremitting scrutiny of the media and the “opposition research” that is done by the competing candidates. Herman Cain has gotten his first taste of being personally attacked, and time will tell if he can survive. Aside from being mocked by the late night comedians, he is now in the sights of the top U.S. political columnists. Today’s editorial by Maureen Dowd is a prime example of what Cain can expect as his campaign progresses.
At Nexus Politix, we will link over time to the columnists we believe that knowledgable citizens should read in order to have the full spectrum of views to make an educated choice at the ballot box. We expect Nexus Politix readers to be open to many points of view, not just one side or the other. We’re confident there will be a set of readers that loathe Maureen Dowd, just as there are others that no doubt object to Charles Krauthammer. But these columnists have huge audiences, and therefore significant influence, so it is important to keep up with what they are saying.
Maureen’s article is biting and has a clever headline: Cain Not Able.
When reacting to criticism, it is natural for a candidate to lash out sometimes, and say things they might not otherwise say under more normal circumstances. Condoleeza Rice, in a brief video clip, eloquently explains that all sides should refrain from playing the race card. Nexus readers should keep their radar up for anyone on any side of the political spectrum that does.
