Ron Paul Applying Heat to Rick Santorum

There is a lot of drama going into tonight’s debate, and the airwaves are full of tough attack ads, one which we have just watched produced by the Ron Paul campaign against both Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich running in South Carolina. While the Ron Paul campaign has a long ways to go before it can compete with Romney, it has pulled no punches when competing with the other candidates. We are looking forward to the debate in New Hampshire!

A note about elect-ability…Ron Paul and Mitt Romney are the only ones who can actually be EXPECTED to beat Obama. To the dogmatic, straw-man arguing, neo-conservative types out there who love to falsely describe Ron Paul as “unelectable” simply because he doesn’t share the far right’s stance on heavy military intervention and preemptive warfare, maybe you should look at the facts and numbers. Ron Paul and Mitt Romney are the only candidates within the margin of error of the polls when matched up against Obama. Mitt Romney beats out Obama by 6% among Independents (roughly 60% of the population) and Ron Paul edges Obama by 7% among independents as well. Romney has a 2 point edge over Obama overall, while Paul remains 1 percentage point back. Mitt Romney and Ron Paul clearly have differences of opinion on a few important topics, but for the right-wing conservative media to downplay the Ron Paul movement is not wise in my opinion. If the Republican Party were serious about defeating Obama come November, they should recognize the two candidates that can/will beat the incumbent President, and focus the discussion of the Republican Party around these candidates and allow the voters to decide which candidate they want to go with. After all, if Ron Paul is as nutty, dangerous, and ‘disgusting’ as some of the other candidates feel he is, then there shouldn’t be anything for the establishment GOP to fear, right? Unless they see the movement gaining traction each and every day, supported by stronger and stronger polling numbers, and have recognized that the only way they are going to maintain the status quo of big and powerful government is to attack Ron Paul by inaccurately describing his positions, and relying on fearful war propaganda almost identical to the misinformation that led us into the war on terror in the first place. America is waking up, the question is: are we too late for this election? I for one hope not.
